The East Coast Trail NEWS is the first issue of our new quarterly newsletter. Its purpose is to inform you of all things related to the maintenance and operation of the ECT.\u00a0Below you will find a summary of what the ECTA has been up to over the last few months. Click the photos below to open PDF documents and learn more about the exciting things happening at ECT.\u00a0As we move forward, we are planning to include feature articles on the skills and knowledge you need to safely engage and hike the trail across the seasons.<\/p>\n

Hiking\u00a0benefits the whole body and is for all ages & stages of life. The East Coast Trail is simply amazing with its endless raw natural beauty that is second to none in the world. Best of all, it is right here in your backyard waiting for you to get out and enjoy.<\/p>\n

While hiking and access to our beautiful coastline are free, we must remember that ECTA is a not-for-profit, member-based, volunteer-driven and managed registered charity. Our volunteers provide their time and expertise for free, however, we also need funding to acquire the critical resources that are essential for the development, maintenance and protection of the trail.<\/p>\n

For all of you who are current members of the Association, your continued and ongoing support is greatly appreciated and required. \u00a0For those of you who are not members please consider taking out a membership today<\/a>, and encourage your family and friends to join us as well, or make a donation<\/a>. The ECT is a resource that will keep on giving for generations to come as long as we provide the loving care, protection, and management it requires.<\/p>\n

Get on the trail, become part of something special, and help us make a difference.\u00a0A reminder for all hikers: there are no open fires permitted on the East Coast Trail.<\/u><\/p>\n

During the last few months, we have partnered and worked closely together with Quidi Vidi Brewery to bring to you the East Coast Trail Pathfinder IPA beer, which Quidi Vidi Brewery released at the end of June. The partnership aims to be mutually beneficial for both parties, with cross-promotion between entities allowing for Quidi Vidi Brewery’s beer drinkers to become increasingly aware of the ECT, and our hikers to learn more about St. John\u2019s oldest craft brewery. Further, Quidi Vidi Brewery will be making a donation to the ECT both through the use of the Taproom for event space as well as a monetary contribution.\u00a0Read more.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

We have three eight-person work crews hired for this construction season, made possible thanks to increased funding from ACOA, the province, and specific municipalities this year. \u00a0One crew is assigned to routine trail maintenance, while the other two crews will be working on path upgrades for the Tinkers Point Path and the Bear Cove Island Path throughout the summer and fall.\u00a0Read more.<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n\n

After three weather-related cancellations, our first two Volunteer Maintenance Outings of the\u00a0season were finally able to take place on June 25 and July 9 on Stiles Cove Path and Flamber Head\u00a0Path, respectively! Volunteer crews trimmed branches, cut down alders, and dispersed slash throughout the\u00a0trails.
