\n<\/span>(Torbay, NL)\u00a0 On Saturday June 4th at the Kavanagh Premises, in Ferryland, NL, the 16th Annual East Coast Trail Tely Hike will begin with hiker’s registration at 8:30am. The Town of Torbay is home to two beautiful trails making up the East Coast Trail\u00a0 the Silver Mine Head Path and Father Troy’s Trail.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Saturday June 4th, 2016 also coincides with International Trails Day and it’s an ideal day and way to begin the hiking season. Individual registration can be set up at www.eastcoasttrail.ca and from there, fundraising groups can be formed.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>The East Coast Trail is a tremendous tourism draw to the Town of Torbay, and it is in the Town’s best interest to get involved and help promote the fundraising Tely Hike to insure that this world class trail system is maintained and protected. So, today I would like to issue a challenge to the regional mayors of Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove, Flatrock, Pouch Cove, Bauline and Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s to promote this event to their residents, set-up a fundraising team and may the top fundraising municipality win! – Mayor Ralph Tapper.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>$70,000 is the total fundraising goal set by the East Coast Trail Association this year and the town of Torbay wishes to show it support for them and the trail they represent by drawing as much attention to the 2016 Tely Hike as possible. Based on 2013 figures, the trail attracts over 14,600 and contributes approximately $3.5 million in tourism spending in the province of Newfoundland & Labrador.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>The success of the trail is no accident, it’s the dedicated and hard work of the East Coast Trail Association year round that makes it what it is, but the Tely Hike is different. This is our chance as a <\/span>community come together and do our bit, fundraising as much as we can to secure the trail for all future users – Mayor Tapper.<\/span>
