The 2011 Trail Season Begins<\/b><\/h2>\n

Happy Spring!<\/b>
\n<\/b>
\n<\/b>The ECTA has again hired over 25 paid crew members as seasonal trail builders and carpenters. The crew is currently out with chain saws clearing blow downs and leaners across the trail, readying the paths into good condition for walkers and hikers.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Work will soon begin on Mickeleens Path, the northern section of which was most damaged by Hurricane Igor last September. This will involve extensive treadway repair and some structural improvements. Mickeleens Path is passable at this time.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>The crew will also be completing the final development of the path from Pouch Cove to Cape St. Francis. Pouch Cove north to Freshwater River was developed in 2010. This work will bring us up to the Cape!<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Maintenance Volunteers are gearing up for our first outing on May 14, see <\/span>Scheduled Hikes<\/b><\/a>. We invite and welcome newcomers to the program. The East Coast Trail cannot continue without greater participation in trail maintenance by our trail users and members. We have an organic product that needs continued attention not to disappear into alders and spruce.<\/span>

\n<\/span>The 11th East Coast Trail Tely Hike is scheduled to take place on June 4th celebrating <\/span>International Trails Day<\/b> and the newly upgraded <\/span>Father Troy’s Path<\/b> and <\/span>Silver Mine Head Path<\/b>, see <\/span>Tely Hike <\/b><\/a>for details. Plan to come out and take part in our annual fund raiser and celebration of the East Coast Trail!<\/span>
