{"id":9618,"date":"2011-05-05T15:02:00","date_gmt":"2011-05-05T15:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eastcoasttrail.com\/?p=9618"},"modified":"2023-07-21T13:50:10","modified_gmt":"2023-07-21T13:50:10","slug":"proposed-housing-development-ragged-beach-witless-bay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eastcoasttrail.com\/proposed-housing-development-ragged-beach-witless-bay\/","title":{"rendered":"Proposed Housing Development Ragged Beach, Witless Bay"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Proposed Housing Development Ragged Beach, Witless Bay<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Wednesday, May 11, 2011<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">News Release, St. John&#8217;s, 11 May 2011<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>Proposed Housing Development Ragged Beach, Witless Bay<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The East Coast Trail Association, which has developed and maintains the East Coast Trail, opposes the development of housing subdivisions adjacent to the Trail along the coastline of the Avalon Peninsula.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Such developments detract from the Trail&#8217;s pristine natural state and deprive both residents of the province and visitors of the enjoyment of the region&#8217;s spectacular coastal wilderness experience.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Association shares the concerns expressed by residents of Witless Bay regarding the impact of this development on the environment of Ragged Beach and on the East Coast Trail. The trail brings economic, social and environmental benefits to the communities through which it passes, benefits that will be undermined by locating housing developments along the East Coast Trail.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>About The East Coast Trail Association:<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The East Coast Trail Association is a volunteer-run &amp; member based registered charity.
