{"id":9833,"date":"2015-05-26T18:04:17","date_gmt":"2015-05-26T18:04:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eastcoasttrail.com\/?p=9833"},"modified":"2023-07-21T13:35:56","modified_gmt":"2023-07-21T13:35:56","slug":"volunteer-custodian-training-on-beaches-path","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eastcoasttrail.com\/volunteer-custodian-training-on-beaches-path\/","title":{"rendered":"Volunteer Custodian Training on Beaches Path"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Volunteer Custodian Training on Beaches Path<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Tuesday, May 26, 2015<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Saturday, May 23, 2015, five new custodian volunteers participated in a 7km training session on the sunny and windy Beaches Path.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Custodian co-ordinator Linda Cohen, reviewed the custodian handbook and the principles of the custodian program. All developed and also all undeveloped paths of the ECT are subject to a careful examination and report twice a year (spring and fall) on trail conditions and problems.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These are prioritized and might include structural damage (broken boardwalk), erosion, blocked trail due to blow-down of trees, unstable leaner trees across the trail, any<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">confusion of trail due to undergrowth requiring maintenance, or side trails indicating a need for additional signage, trailhead issues, and so on.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The trail manager and seasonal crew use these findings and reports to assist with their work plan.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The day was beautiful, the lunch spot nothing less than the best, and a nice outing was had by all.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Thanks everyone for your participation and dedication.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Story and photos by J.
