{"id":9848,"date":"2015-06-06T18:10:17","date_gmt":"2015-06-06T18:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eastcoasttrail.com\/?p=9848"},"modified":"2023-07-21T13:35:36","modified_gmt":"2023-07-21T13:35:36","slug":"hikers-raise-60000-for-the-east-coast-trail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eastcoasttrail.com\/hikers-raise-60000-for-the-east-coast-trail\/","title":{"rendered":"Hikers raise $60,000 for the East Coast Trail"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Hikers raise $60,000 for the East Coast Trail<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Saturday, June 6, 2015<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hikers raise $60,000 for the East Coast Trail<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Over 350 hikers turned out to the 15th annual East Coast Trail Tely Hike<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">fundraiser and to celebrate International Trail&#8217;s day.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Individual hikers and teams raised more than $59,830, surpassing the goal of $50,000, and pledges are still coming in.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hikers and representatives of the East Coast Trail Association, were joined by Minister Keith Hutchings, representing the Province, Senator Dave Wells representing ACOA, Shelley Beer representing corporate sponsor Exxon Mobil and special guests Andy Jones and Mary Lynn Bernard.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Prizes were awarded for the top three fundraising teams who raised a combined total of close to $13,000 and top three individual fundraisers who raised a combined total of over $7,500. Five door prizes were also awarded (see list of winners below).<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The East Coast Trail is an award-winning hiking trail. More than 265 kilometres of wilderness coastal hiking trail have been developed over the past 20 years. The Trail is now recognized by National Geographic as one of the 10 best adventure destinations in the world<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The East Coast Trail Tely Hike Fundraiser is an annual event that raises necessary funds to help maintain and protect the East Coast Trail.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A big *Thank You* to the sixty volunteers, special event sponsor The Telegram and special musical guest Con O&#8217;Brien who helped make this day a great success!<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2015 Fundraising Awards and Grand Prize Winners<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Raising money is hard work, but some teams and individuals make it look easy. Dip your paddle into the calm waters of Cape Broyle&#8217;s rugged coast and point your kayak straight for the adventure of a lifetime with Newfoundland&#8217;s original award-winning adventure company.
