East Coast Trail receives support from Town of Conception Bay South<\/b><\/h2>\n

(Conception Bay South, NL)\u00a0 The East Coast Trail Association (ECTA) and the Town of Conception Bay South are pleased to announce that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) formalizing their commitment to work together to maintain and protect the East Coast Trail, which stretches along the eastern edge of the Avalon Peninsula.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>The Town’s close proximity to the East Coast Trail creates a unique opportunity to connect it to key municipal recreational and natural areas in Conception Bay South, including the newly re-developed TRailway, commented Mayor Stephen Tessier. This MOU reinforces our commitment to the longevity of the East Coast Trail, growing the Town’s tourism and economic potential, and providing residents with access to recreational infrastructure so they can lead an active life.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>The East Coast Trail has now signed MOUs with five communities on the eastern Avalon, establishing partnerships for enhanced cooperation on the care, management and protection of the trail. The MOUs clarify roles and responsibilities for communities and the Association, and formalize a process to share information on issues that affect the trail.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Commenting on the agreement, ECTA’s President Randy Murphy said We are delighted to have an MOU with the Town of Conception Bay South. We know that the East Coast Trail is highly valued by residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, and tourists alike. Strong relationships with the towns and communities the trail borders or passes through help to ensure we are all working together to maintain and protect it. The leg of the trail stretching from Topsail Beach in Conception Bay South, to Portugal Cove-St. Philips, has been open for hiking since the mid 1990s, but has not been fully developed. We look forward to working with Conception Bay South to maintain, enhance and upgrade the trail between Topsail Beach and Portugal Cove-St. Philips.<\/span>

\n<\/span>Spanning 300 developed kilometers, the East Coast Trail is a world-class wilderness hiking experience connecting 23 picturesque communities between Cappahayden and Portugal Cove-St. Philips. Formed in 1994, ECTA’s mission is to provide a wilderness hiking experience by developing and maintaining the trail, promoting public access, minimizing its impact on the natural environment and protecting it for future generations.<\/span>
